Interlocking Bench
The Interlocking Bench was selected by my professors to be shown at my school’s booth at ICFF 2022. The project brief was to create a furniture piece that addresses social, mental, or physical health. The interlocking Bench addresses social and mental health. The intended use for the bench is to be placed under a window to serve as a reading bench of sorts. As the name implies, it separates and can be rearranged into a variety of positions based on the preference of the user.

Solid wood furniture, fostering a sense of familiarity and being grounded
The idea is to make a calm environment for humans and house pets. A good spot for reflection and peace, helpful for being alone or for sharing with a friend, whether they are human or animal.

Making the Bench
Scaled Study Model
3 main shapes that I could work with.
One and three-quarter-inch thick White Ash.
Made the ends ornamental by sliding in the side to hand an ornamental overhang.
Bench has a few screws, most joints have dowels.
Dowels are stained darker for contrast.
3/8-inch rounded edges using router and files.
Danish oil used to finish the wood and keep it natural.
